How we generate content at The Confident Clinician
At The Confident Clinician, we recognized the challenges with traditional continuing education, with conventional medicine decision-making software and with integrative medicine-focused knowledge bases.
Although each were serving a particular purpose at one time, the nature of knowledge collection and synthesis, the method of delivery or the absence of support on how to implement research into practice was an ongoing challenge for Naturopathic Doctors, especially given the lack of standards of care or guidelines published by the industry for practicing clinicians.
What we noticed at The Confident Clinician were industry gaps and problems, such as
- Conventional medical programs often prioritize pharmacotherapy over nutrition, exercise, and supplements, despite the existence of relevant literature.
- Continuing education lectures are disconnected from each other and are treated as isolated pieces of information, not an integrated network of information.
- Integrative medicine research collections publish study summaries without adding to a guideline or system of care, leaving the clinician to decide how it fits into practice or compares against other interventions on their own.
Our development of content is a reflection of our pursuit of a more comprehensive knowledge base, a network of information to help build care guidelines for Naturopathic Doctors and the belief that clinicians need guidance on how to prescribe, not just what to prescribe, to build confidence and deliver outcomes in their patient population.
When we build content for our members, we undertake a process that includes
- A deep dive into the topic, evaluating literature for and against integrative interventions to develop guidelines for clinicians.
- A review of the current conventional standards of care and an assessment of how to implement integrative care options to improve outcomes, meet patient values or reduce side effects.
- A published guideline guiding clinicians on their role in the circle of care, assessment strategies, differential diagnoses and the evidence for support options for each topic.
- Video dialogue with our experts to help clinicians understand the framework of care and how to deliver the strategy best to achieve the outcomes observed in research.
- Patient-facing resources for quick access and support in the delivery of the guidelines.
- Comprehensive referencing that enables clinicians to access the primary literature on a topic as needed.
- Cross-referencing previous topics and content to support ease of learning across multiple topics, and supporting clinicians in understanding transdiagnostic approaches to care.
- The addition of the above content to our knowledge base, which is integrated with our machine learning system. This allows interactive dialogue between clinicians and our system to give in-the-moment support and feedback to clinicians as they build patient protocols from our guidelines.
Technology and innovation can unlock the potential of information, dialogue and community. At The Confident Clinician, we’ve unlocked the knowledge and experience of our expert community, the research on integrative care and clinical guidelines to support easier and faster clinical decision making that clinicians know they can trust.
Each medical topic can take 40-60 hours of preparation and evaluation from our research team and is revisited every 4-12 months to ensure that no practice-changing literature has been published. Quarterly updates are implemented through our process and our knowledge base is updated in real time as new research summaries and content is created.
We’re dedicated to providing only the highest level of evidence and support for our clinicians. Never before have clinicians had the opportunity for continuing education to build on itself year over year or for an interactive system of content that can hold a “discussion” with clinicians while they work face to face with patients.
The Confident Clinician platform has revolutionized the industry’s problem of wasted clinician research time and outdated support. You can join our premium subscription here.
